Advice/links on how to upgrade a laptop memory & graphics card, please?

I am not computer-savvy at all, so forgive any terminology errors.

I have the chance to acquire an Acer Travelmate 2420 for next to nothing.

For my purposes, I would need to upgrade the memory and graphics card. I don't know what it currently has but I could look it up if given directions on how to do that.

Could someone provide a link or links and tell me what I would need to purchase, the approximate cost, and if it is something I could do myself?

As far as your graphics card intel indicates that it is integrated so you may have a problem changing it out

 

Typically, you cannot change the graphics processor in a laptop since it is soldered onto the motherboard. It is one of the sacrifices you make for the luxury of mobility. Memory on the other hand, you can upgrade. buggabear's link it s great place to start.

I guess my next question is, if I buy this (which is quite affordable, ty for the link), can I install it myself? If so, do you have a link with directions (preferably with pictures)?
