Hi everyone! I'm looking for advice on the currently available FREE firewalls out there. I'm a former Online Armor user - I stopped using it because it gave me a number of issues.

Just curious what favorites folks might have. I'm looking for something as lightweight as possible. OA was such a hog!

(my system is XPSP3 and I'm running Avast for anti-virus)

    Thanks!

PrivateFirewall and Comodo are both highly regarded and I've found them both to be quite lightweight.

    Hi

+1 for Comodo, especially as you have Avast and I found Comodo for me in XP SP3 plays well together with Avast (is your Avast the latest version 5?), but also name any other security applications you have installed as never knwo one may not?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have avast 5. I don't have any other security software running.

So, can Comodo be used just for the firewall? Everything I read here indicates that it is an AV and firewall. From what you're saying, I can just use the firewall?

    Thanks again!

Yes, just decline the offer to install anything else (including Toolbars) and install only the firewall.

Cool, thanks so much for the advice. I guess I will give Comodo a try! :)

    I'm also a Comodo user.

Hope this aids in your choice. :)

    Another vote for Comodo.
    You won't regret the decision.

Thanks again to everyone for your advice. I'm glad to see so many votes for Comodo. I installed it only 2 hours ago, but already I can tell that it is WAY more lightweight than Online Armor. Installation was a cinch, setup was simple and it definitely isn't nagging me as much as OA was! I'm loving it so far!

    :)
