I am looking to replace my PC system. As there are only 2 suppliers in my town in Australia the choice is limited to Leading Edge and Optima. The two systems I am lookig at are the LEC PASSPORT MEDIA CENTRE EDITION and the OPTIMA WORKPRO VI4 806.
I haven't a clue what all the lingo means so am hoping someone can explain it to me. The Specs are as follows.
    LEC:
    Intel pentium D 2.6 GHz
    I GB Memory
    250GB hard drive
    128MB graphics card
    Didgital card reader
    Media Centre
    Remote control
    2 year warranty

    OPTIMA:
    Intel Viiv Technology
Intel Pentium D processor 945 supporting dual-core processing. (3.4 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2x2 MB cache)
Windows XP Media Center edition 2005
    64 bit ready
    1gb DDR2 RAM
    250GB SATA2 HDD with NCQ
128 MB ATi Radeon X300SE-TD PCI-E Graphics Card
    Sterio Speakers Microsoft works 8.5
    3 year warranty

Both have Duel layer DVD burners, 19in wide screen monitors and are priced the same at $1799.00.
I mainly use the computer for web searching & email. At this time I dont download music or movies. Both retailers have recommended a Cannon MP 500 printer/scanner.
Any advice on the pros and cons of each or even a better setup would be appreciated.
    Thanks Bruces

Both systems seem more than compatible for your requirements!
In saying that, the Optima specs(compared to the LEC) list these advantages: 3.4ghz CPU supporting 800mhz FSB, the RAM is DDR2 and the HDD supports Raid interface, all of which the LEC does not specify!
The warranty is also 12 months greater! (plus the mobo is 64 bit compatible and dual core supportive)
    Your choice.....

    Good Luck

Thanks nitecrawler. do you think it is over kill for what I use the computer for.Maybe 512 of RAM & 80/100 hard drive. Would it be better to upgrade to XP Professional. Your advise would be welcome.

XP Pro SP2 would be my advice on choosing an operating system for your new computer. You dont have to reduce the RAM and HDD content unless you want to save some money on the upgrade.
Remember the rule with computers: too much is never enough, and never enough is the norm!

Thanks nitecrawler. I will take that on board. Have the funds so I get your grift. Have had some good reports on a company called CDM Austrailia here in WA. Have you got any comments on them or suggestions on other companys that its maybe worth contacting. I really appreciate your time on this.

I have not had any experience with CDM or many others for that matter!
I prefer to build my own 'custom' systems these days as i am able to tailor them to my own specific needs, which i personally believe is what its all about!
However no matter what you choose, i will always stress the importance of implementing the latest OS if possible, whenever.
Windows Vista will soon be upon us now, and if you would like to explore the possibilities of this OS, please refer to Halo's thread!
