I had a guy build this system for me last year, I have had a lot of issues regarding this system. I am finding out that my memory is far to inadequate (256MB)

So.... before I upgrade the memory to two GB ($ 150-200) I would like to ask your opinions on the worthiness of the set up. perhaps I would be better to cut my losses now , order new board and then buy additional memory.

I do no gaming to speak of, but love to watch good quality videos, from time to time on the computer.

    I have a socket A, Biostar M7VIG-400 board, (apparently ) 256 Mb memory
KM266 chip set, this system seems to me to be very slow and unresponsive.

Will it hold up to the new Vista platform coming available soon.

I do alot of file work with movies, music, pics, office programs, e mails etc.

    Thanks.

That'll take two 1gb of DDR PC2700 (333mhz) ram, giving a total of 2gb if you want.

I'd get a 1gb stick if I were you to begin with, see if there's much of an improvement (there should be a big one!) and go from there.

Also, what cpu are you running?
