After downloading a whole lot of updates for new system there are about 100 that have failed, will updates try and reload them, or do I have to uninstall them before they can be reinstalled, just want to make sure the system is fully up to date before I start loading programs.
    Thanks.

What version of Windows are you running?
For Windows 7 you can access the list of installed updates by clicking Start Menu >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Windows Update >> View Update History >> Installed Updates.
Consult the list to see for sure what did get installed on your system.
In my experience, Windows doesn't register an update as installed unless the update succeeded. Actually, I don't think you can uninstall an update that's not listed in "Installed Updates". In any case, the more important question is "why did over 100 updates fail?" A little more info from you would be nice.

Yes I am running win 7 64bit, I have checked installed updates, so are you saying if the update is there then it was installed, although it registers as failed, I have absolutely no idea why they show as failed.

Whoa, slow down. You're not making any sense.

    1. First off, how do you know that the updates failed?
    2. Where precisely, do the updates show as being failed?
    3. What did you find under "Installed Updates"?

If you go to windows update and look at update history it show all the updates, they are either marked failed or successful , now if you check installed updates you get the ones that have installed. now my update history shows that 52 have failed, I have noted the relevant numbers and x checked with installed history and it only shows 12 are missing and 1 I can't trace.
Summary updates show 52 failed but history only shows 13. So will windows still try and reinstall those 13, or will I have try to do it..

The simple way to resolve this is to run Windows Update manually from Control Panel. That will give you, and allow you to install the definitive list of available updates that have not yet been installed. You may find that updates that continually fail may install successfully in safe mode. The failed count isn't inconsistent btw, it's just that if a single update fails five times your failed count will be 5.
