New here and in a bit of a bind. I work from my home as a contractor for a large corp. I noticed last night that my brother (who lives with me and is more computer savvy than I) was on the net at a XXX site. The problem is that he uses my computer from time to time "to check email." Needless to say after an arguement he admitted to going to sites he should not have been to on my work cpu. My brother claims he has never dowloaded anything, only looked at pics. I have never noticed anything unusual other than my brother downloading Spybot, SpywareBlaster, and CCleaner on my cpu to help my cpu run better and eliminate spyware. I suppose this is how he chose to cover his tracks from me finding out. My real problem now is that I am terrified that my company will find out my cpu has been to these sites and fire me. I log onto my LAN everyday through a VPN dialer and utilize a Secure ID token to access my email and company info. I am running windows XP and my search engine is mozilla.

What is the best software or "fix" to help me erase or delete the places my cpu has gone? It does not have to be Freeware either. I have average computer knowledge and skills so please take that into consideration when recommending a fix. Thank you very much in advance!

lol, what browsers are you using (ie. internet explorer, netscape)? ccleaner does a good job of eliminating stuff by itself, emptying cache, history etc., but if you use a different browser, you might have to do that manually on them? watch your setting on ccleaner, as if you have stuff in your trash bin that you want, you might accidentally delete them.

    internet explorer -
tools internet options - delete cookies, delete files, clear history, clear location bar

netscape (depends on what version) -
edit preferences - history, clear history -
tools, cookie manager, manage stored cookies, remove all cookies

if it were me, check for spyware, and eliminate any cookies that i could.

a good one for internet explore (it has a popup blocker also) - http://toolbar.yahoo.com/ , i'd install this and run it.

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 <-- major geeks spyware page

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html <-- ad-aware se
    http://majorgeeks.com/download4283.html <-- cleaner plug-in for ad-aware

    http://www.intermute.com/products/spysubtract.html <-- spysubtract

basically, most spyware checkers catch different things, so it's best to use different ones. spysubtract is a full blown (i think) version for 30 days, but it sets itself startup on reboot (no biggie, you can disable). adaware is great, and the yahoo one, is good as well (both free). g/l - sos
