Hey theremotedr, I'm in contact with Malwarebytes support all the time, and the Malwarebytes Free and Premium are the same Malwarebytes that any user can get. It is not a special patch, it is just Malwarebytes.

    Hi,

    That sounds freat.
Can you point me in the right direction so i can download something.
I currently have AVG on my pc but just also wondering if they will run alongside each other ok without problems etc.

Just looking for something to make me a little more secure without going to windows 7 / 8 etc as im happy with xp and dont have the problem trying to find all the driver updates etc.

    Many thanks.

Other than being unable to afford to upgrade I can't think of any justifiable reason for continuing to use XP on the internet. It's just asking for trouble, possibly serious trouble if you use it for financial transactions.

Malwarebytes also has active protection and did give a trial with installation at one time, I believe it still does. I use Firefox as the default browser on any Windows Operating system I use. There is about:config and many an add-on for security to adjust browser settings, aka do not use Internet Explorer. I wouldn't use Oracles Java and keep Adobe programs to a minimum. If you use Adobe Flash player keep it up to date, as most programs should be, and only let it run as needed. You just need to be careful where you surf and what programs you install, as AVG and Malwarebytes won't catch everything.
Possibly might want to use a program like timefreeze to help, or Winpatrol. Windows XP is a great Operating System, 1 billion Chinese users can't be wrong:-D. Save your pennies and get a new operating system when you can.:wave

Maybe XP users can get Chinese updates:-D

I hope they do something, one article I read said that future 7 & 8 updates will make them even more vulnerable. It went on to explain the the new OS's are built on top of the old ones, some of the new fixes will point to weaknesses in XP!

Every OS without exception is vulnerable to attack, but I'd rather use one where the holes are being plugged as they are found. XP is now defenceless as there will be no co-ordinated method of protecting it and its users.

MalwareBytes has an app called AntiExploit which runs real-time. It's in development, so it's at beta stage. But, on my XP drive, I've done a clean install, fully patched it, removed apps that "phone home" and am running CIS, MBAM, MBAE, SAS, Crypto Prevent, WinPatrol Plus and Spyware Blaster. I'm also backing up the good configuration daily and I'm always careful of the sites I visit in FF (I've disabled IE and Outlook Express) and am careful of what I download/install.

I took my father's old Toshiba Satellite laptop and loaded Puppy Linux on it. Runs like a champ. Of course it is only for testing stuff, since it is not powerful enough to really do much with it. Also will not work with Captive Portals, even with XP. Sometimes depending on the equipment, you have to decide what to do with it. Either see if it will run Windows 7, or Linux, or e-Cycle.
