I've asked friends, family, and co-workers, if they were given the choice, would they change their past or affect their future? Aside from people wanting the upcoming lottery numbers or which team to bet on in the Superbowl, and the fact that you affect your future with everything you do, when the responses were serious, most wanted to change their past.
My choice would be to change my past. Clean up one or two skeletons so to speak.
    What about you guys?

Honestly? No. There are absolutely some things I would rather not have had to overcome, but none of them were choices I made, but rather things that were done to me. And it doesn't really matter anyway, because everything has led me to where I am. Even the biggest mistake I ever made has had a HUGE silver lining to it, so while that would be the one thing over which I had control that I wish had been different, I wouldn't give up what came from it for anything, even if it meant making my life better in general. Because I would have missed out on some truly wonderful people and things had it not happened.

I think my answer would be no. I like who I am today and have to think my past, and decisions I made, dictated that.

I'm one of those that think people should really live in the now.

I would basically do what I am doing now. Whilst there MANY things in the past that I wish were different, the past is exactly that - history. Affecting the future - yes, sure, that's what I am striving to do, anyway. Some factors are not in my control, and there is always the unexpected, but stuff happens, you know?;)
I make my own future, and my own past. Not the pasts that have already gone, but the pasts yet to come, because every present and future will eventually become the past. It's called change. If there were no change, time, by definition would also 'stop', or cease.

as i tell ppl that are victims of various past issues with disorders like PTSD. the passed is a story. dont read it, dont let it make you a victim. they (or it) made you the good person that you are. (thats it in a nutshell) theres far more to it to gain someones trust to be able to tell them that. dangerous too. i tell my wife , "they made you for me".
i myself wouldnt go back. iam lucky i got this far. jeffS
