upgrading to a AFT pro 35u card reader, into a dell vostro 260, win 7-64 bit.
in the box was 3 cables, one USB for external use (not using)
and 2 cables with 5 pin connectors on the motherboard end.
back of the reader has 2 ports for the cables, one for the reader, one for a pass-thru USB port.
motherboard has a 10 pin connector with one blanked off.
when i plug in both my 5 pins into the motherboard, the USB port works but not the reader.
when i swap the cables, same thing.
    power light never comes on.
    insert a card, nothing.
    any ideas?

    thanks!

The only thing I can suggest is to double check your USB connections, make sure you have them the right way round, is your motherboard usb header colour coded?

    1 VCC Red +5 VDC
    2 D- White Data -
    3 D+ Green Data +
    4 GND Black Ground

Notice one of your wires won't connect to anything as there are only 4 pins for internal usb so make sure it's the correct one, if the power light of the device hasn't come on I'd suggest you have the red + and Black - the wrong way round.

When it's connected you should receive a message a new device has been connected, if you don't use the external USB connection to verify the device is functional, if it doesn't work is a regular usb port and your other usb devices do then the device is probably faulty.

thanks! i believe i have them correctly attached but i will flip them around and see what happens.
right now the both red wires are on pins 1 & 6, and the black ground is on the one blank spot, 10 or maybe 5.
    i'll try it right now.

i have now tried every possible option of connecting,, must be a bad reader.

    thanks!
any recommendations for a high quality internal 3.5 reader?

    Here's a more helpful diagram,

Using the left row of pins as an example= black wire should go to pin 7, the red wire goes to pin 1, after connecting these correctly the device should power up. The green wire goes to pin 5, the white wire to pin 3.
