    HELLO

So I have an old Gateway M 1615 notebook with Vista Premium Home Edition BIOS 90.02 with an AMD Turion processor. It was running EXTREMELY slowly and I decided, last yr, to buy myself a new laptop and give the Gateway to the kids. I did this without any restrictions or parental controls and they filled it with all kinds of stuff. So I decided to format it back to factory specs. Now I do not have any WIFI and I have a switch on the left side but its not doing anything anymore no matter if its switched on or off. PLEASE HELP! Ive downloaded and installed new drivers, got sent to a page where I was supposed to type in my SSID and password but the first part of the form didnt load so nothing got done. I spent 7 hours on it yesterday ... hooked up to my bluray player's internet cord and hardwired it sitting on the floor. PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Hi and Welcome to the forum

Does this PC after the re-install have the latest Service Pack for Vista?

Could you also check in Device Manager (just click start and in start search type device manager) then tell us if any devices have a yellow ! mark next to then and if so what are they?

This may link us to a driver issue as the wireless networking on that model laptop could be from a few different vendors and models of wireless hardware, so before going that route the yellow ! marks could highlight this for us.

If you click Start > Connect to and then the wireless network, then connect, you may get asked for a security key, if you do add that key to the box shown, then try and connect, if you get any error messages do tell us in full what they are.

*this is just a placeholder LINK so I can remember where the drivers are for this model.

well I looked in the device manager and it has under other devices a yellow ! Next to unknown device

so under device manager I have 1 flag there and that is next to other devices.. I have no internet connection on the computer to download latest updates

by the way I forgot to mention that during the system restore while I was loading everything the first time shut off in the middle of it so now I'm trying to do another factory restore and nothing is working for me

All the drivers for your laptop will be listed here:

    http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?partNumber=1014651R

You will need to specify your Operating System, and if it is 32, or 64-bit.

Download the drivers you need to a USB flash drive, and use it to install the driver you need to get the network card up.

As far as the interruption during the re-install, what do you mean by "nothing" is working? Also under the "silly things I have to say" category is make sure your laptop is connected to AC (wall) power when doing an full recovery, or ANY recovery for that matter.
