I uninstalled IE8 because it had started taking like 10 seconds to load, and IE6 ran fine. I reinstalled IE8 and it is still doing the same thing. I am not runnning a bunch of add-ons and this came suddenly, it wasn't a gradual thing. I have no toolbars, or homepage, and very few add-ons. Any help with this matter?

I used to load it up in 1-2 seconds, and firefox in my expirience is very flawed with security, also. I know that my system should handle it. My system will, not to be rude, but I just need to know what could have caused that drastic slowdown. My system is running Windows XP, and it runs everything else fine, and loads it up in less than 2 seconds, so I feel that it is just something to do with internet explorer.

Sorry, but my IE8 starts in less than 3 seconds. Have you tried IE8 with no add-ons, (under system tools)? Or just turn off all add-ons and accelerators, that is how I set up IE8 on computers.

Or, though I haven't got around to using it yet, I am told that Google Chrome is faster that IE.

What URL is set as your home page? By default, I believe www.msn.com is set as home page. Changing that to something simple such as blank page or www.google.com might improve IE's startup speed a bit, too.

One thing that can really slow down IE8 or even freeze it, is if there are a lot of 'add-ons' running while you are trying to browse, managing your add-ons can really speed up browsing. To fix try this:

In IE, go to ‘tools’ and ‘manage add-ons’.
Disabling any unnecessary add-ons may help your Internet run faster.
Try disabling add-ons with more than a .2 sec load time. (i.e. tool bars)
If you’re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system.

I have tried it with no add-ons, and my homepage is blank. I have almost everything disabled possible. As I said it has been loading up in 1-2 seconds for a few weeks, and then all of the sudden it started taking like 10 seconds to load. I am talking actually useable.

If you have done all the management with the add-ons and accelerators and the problems persist, the next thing I would try would be to unintall IE8 and then reinstall, oh but first see if the reverted to IE7 is working okay. If it is not, there are some other system problems to address.

I just did another install of IE8 this morning and it opens in 1 to 2 seconds. Use this site for your home page when testing.

Have done multiple reinstalls and yes, IE6, and 7 work fine and open in 1-2 seconds.

Then, stay with IE7, or use Firefox, which, contrary to what you think, is a secure browser.

If you are using Spybot Search And Destroy with IE8 it will cause a slow down or even hang it up. Be sure that you download the updates from Microsoft to cover this problem.

The same thing happened to me on my laptop, and I had to remove Spybot completly due to it hanging up everything on startup.
