After virus scan system will not boot

After AVG virus scan, viruses were located and removed. One was a win86.exe.

This is a Windows XP Pro computer.

Now the system will not boot. When booting the only profile on Welcome Screen that is seen is Administrator. When clicked it does not ask for a password it displays "loading your personal settings" then immediately "saving your settings" and takes you back to Welcome Screen.

I tried Safe Mode with same result as well as Last Known Good Config. Same results.

I booted into Recovery Console.
1. Chkdsk /r. "CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery..." message comes up on screen about 20 times and then chkdsk starts but it does not find or resolve anything.

2. Fixboot said successful but did still could not boot.

3. Tried sfc /scannow but got response that command is not recognized.

Has anyone run into this or have any suggestions?

I cant tell you how many times I've ran virus scans that ended up "deleting" things that were essentially related to running windows, in these cases i end up testing the harddrive and memory, and if all else fails call it a corrupt operating system due to viruses, backed up data, then re-installed the customers version of windows, but then again, i dont know everything there is to know about windows "repairs" so a reload is much quicker for me, im sure someone here can tell you better than me on what to do =P
