I had to wipe a Dell GX260 to refurbish it. After a 3 run wipe, exited, I turned the computer off and then on again with the XP install disk in the drive. The computer started up but the Dell splash screen didn't appear or any options to go into setup or boot menu. The screen just stays dark. I have checked the monitor and it is working. The computer never boots to the install disk. What can I try?

Most likely you will have to Re boot the whole system with a new copy of Xp the hard way.You might have deleted the hole Operating system. Not sure what you did when you where wipeing but you could have deleted your (OP).

    Buggabear-
No you must have a Windows Op disk in drive to go to setup screen. You know the blue screen. But if your talking about the op than when you re start your computer hit F1.

Dell's are F2 to get to a boot options screen.
Set the boot option to your CD/DVD drive and I found that you usually have to disable the HD option to get the PC to start the install of the OS disc.

I think musksnipe is right. I think Dell ships without CD/DVD in the boot order. You want to set it to boot from CD first for the install.

    SOLVED!

I decided that since the computer wasn't even booting the Dell splash screen or CMOS data, then I needed to revert the BIOS to default. So, I removed the power cord and CMOS battery. After a minute, I replaced the battery and power cord. The computer started, dell splash screen displayed and I was able to get into the setup (F2) to reset the time, then into the boot order (F12) to select CD drive and away I went to install XP. An easy cure after I thought more about what was actually happening.

Everyone, thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
