Age of Empires 2 problem

my problem is that every time i load a single player game, it comes up with a message saying that "an error occours while starting the game" if anyone can help me resolve this issue i would be most greatful


yes, i know this is an out dated game, but i've looked everywhere and had no luck, if anyone has any information they can use to help me with this i would be most greatful...

im on a windows vista platform and i've tried setting the compatibility and no luck, it is on "run as administrator" and still nothing, the directory is NOT read only

more information is that the game has no problems loading the main menu, all the video AVIs work, i am yet to try the multiplayer, but from what i've seen i think it works.
