Agnitum will not open

I tried to open Agnitum Outpost Security Suite Free on my PC running Windows 7 (x64) HP SP1. It would not open. I right-clicked on the programme in the Start Menu and selected Run as administrator as I always have done. The User Account Control box opened as normal. I clicked Yes. Nothing happened. I received no error messages. Nothing, nada!

So, I decided I will uninstall the programme and start again from scratch. I opened Revo Uninstaller to uninstall it but it was not listed there. I then ran a search on Agnitum's website to find out if there was a manual removal method.

There was an manual method and I followed it. I rebooted into Safe Mode. Went in to the Agnitum folder on my hard drive and ran an applaication called clean.exe. The instructions said that nothing would appear to happen. But, when the uninstall was complete Windows would restart. Sure enough the computer restarted. I checked and Agnitum was gone.

I've just downloaded it from Agnitum's website. I ran the setup application and as it requested I restarted by computer. Agnitum is now on my PC again. I have exactly the same problem I described above. It still is not listed in Revo Uninstaller but it is listed in CCleaner's list of programmes under Uninstall.

I don't know what to do or try now. Agnitum was both my firewall and antivirus therefore I do need something sorting.

    mark59...

Have you checked to see if it's in your system's Add/Remove list in Control Panel? It's probably not there, but it's worth a look...

    Hi AltBo

It is listed in Add/Remove Programs. As I have previously posted it is listed in CCleaner. Another programme I have that can uninstall programmes is Iobit's Advanced SystemCare: it is listed there too.:confused

You can uninstall Agnitum again and simply install and run Microsoft Security Essentials for your Antivirus and use Windows Firewall. Under Windows 7, they're both excellent.

mdonah thank you for your recommendations. I still want to find a solution to my problem with Outpost. I prefer not to rely on Windows for antimalware and firewall.

Yes, I did because I have the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

I didn't know that. Something new I've learnt.

My concern is to get Outpost working. If 64 bit versions will not show up in Revo there seems little point in my getting the pro version for a short time.

I'm 99.99999....% certain there was only a single application file called clean. I am quite certain that there wasn't one called clean 64. However, I shall no go and look at it and if there is a clean 64 application file I will use that and see if the issue gets sorted.

Thanks for your assistance, both helpful and interesting.

Revo Pro version will lists 64bit. Give it a shot to remove Outpost. No need to purchase, one month free trial.
It's in the link I mentioned.

    Cheers..

I do not think that I will ever get my head around technology no matter how long I live. I turned off my PC after my last post. Then I remembered I wanted to check an email. I logged back on. Up flashed a box which was Outpost asking me to register. I registered. I was sent a registration key to my email address. Outpost has let me enter it. Now it is working.

Yet, I could not open Outpost before. I couldn't register.

Well, I am ..... well just lost for words.

Thankfully you've resolved the issue with Outpost.

As far as your AV and Firewall, you may want to look at this post in "Freeware Antivirus 2013".

I was running MSE and Windows Firewall on my XP machine. But under XP, there are really no configuration options. So, I went for Comodo's Internet Security Suite which includes AV, Firewall and Ice Dragon browser which can be run in virtual mode effectively sandboxing the browser.

So far, the suite has been excellent.

Until last weekend I was using Outpost as my firewall. My anti-virus programme was avast. However, I have had major problems with avast as you may read if you wish at this thread. It caused me major headaches. I've tried all sorts and I cannot resolve the problem.

Outpost Security Suite has an anti-virus function. I had those functions turned off in order to prevent conflicts with avast. Having made the decision that I have to get rid of avast I thought rather than go looking for another programme I'd switch on Outpost's anti-virus functions. I've used Outpost for some time now and I am happy with it. I shall just have to see how things go. As far as I am aware there is no way of checking how well anti-virus software is working until you discover it failed to prevent an infection.
