Ok...not exactly sure if this has been posted before (sorry, looked but didnt see any), and i've checked other sources mercilessly, but my Agp bus is supposed to be running at 8X, and under "agp settings" for my Geforce FX 6800 card, it reads that the o.s. runs at *2x*, while everything else runs 8x

    GPU Chipset OS Optimal
    8x 8x 2x 8x (8x...optimal?..no kidding)

    My specs as follows
512 MB DDR Ram (dual channel)
Geforce 6800 FX *have used multiple different drivers*
Shuttle An-35 N-400 Ultra *have read this problem happens on other mobo's*
WINDOWS *2000*.........*have tried the service packs, but not all of them*
Athlon XP 2500 *oC'd and otherwise, made no difference*

I've done everything i can think of, short of bashing it with a ballpeen hammer. Bios settings, Bios updates, GART driver re-installs, messing with installation order of drivers. I even got so pissed, i pulled it (the vid card :D ) out of the slot and stuck it back in turning the power on and off 5 times.

IF ANYONE, has ever heard of this problem getting fixed, knows how to fix it, or knows the address of programmer responsible for making a fix but didnt...i'd appreciate a lil help.

Not sure if this will help or not, I recently worked on a computer that had a bios setting for the agp bus. It had the options Auto, 8x and 4x. Perhaps forcing 8x will help. Or not.

    Just a thought.

this problem is usually fixed by installing the mobos chipset drivers ... so it's most likely an issue with your motherboard

also try enabling or disabling fastwrites ... should also be in the BIOS but it is in your advanced dislplay settings too.. at least it should be

Negative, all driver updates and bios settings have no effect.. :(..i've looked around, and its actually a fairly widespread problem, doesnt seem to be particular to any one type of setup or motherboard or processor...or anything for that matter, seems to just "happen"...but i've not read ONCE of anybody figuring out how to fix it...I know for a FACT though its affecting gaming...BIG time. Morrowind, a fairly old game, grinds to almost a halt if view is set above 25%....and dont even ask how Operation Flashpoint runs...

I have never heard of anyone who has never been able to fix a slow agp port, usually one of the following fixes works

    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1

I dont see bios mentioned have you set it to 8x in bios, also although slightly unrelated have you got the extra molex power in the vid card and have you a good strong psu to power it,if there isnt enough power the card will auto underclock itself.

first download ALL the service packs and updates for security, let alone performance,if at all possible upgrade to windows xp,a nice peice of hardware like the 6800gt deserves it,exactly FOR these kind of performance and incompatiblity issues, once you have the service packs,I believe your board is nforce 2 install and try this unified chipset driver from nvidia

I had the same thing on ALL of my agp cards that are 8x it means nothing it just means that when surfing the web or checking Email the card is running at 2x no biggy it couldent even start to use the bandwidth of 2x in 2D mode ....no sweat as long as GPU and chipset ar at 8x ......

Found it Thare is a 5FPS dif in doom 3 from 2x to 8 x.....and a 2FPS dif in unreal...read up..You cannot notace that small of a dif with out a fps counter....its all in your head trust me i know how it works i used to be overly obsesed with every unnotacable performance boost ...but im 100% positive your running at 8x in games.....and 2D in 8x wont make a bit of dif... if thare is a way to force it ....
