I have decided on buying a 6800GT for my new 1000$ computer. I have done this off the review on anandtech.com's site. Espically this article : http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2290&p=9 .

I would like to know which manufacture is creating that 6800GT? My system is this :

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Update OCZ Value Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model OCZ4001024WV3DC-K

(going to OC that on my mobo :))

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3000BIBOX

Anyone know of a better video card to buy? Be it ATI or Nvidia I dont care as long as it is under 300$, and fast :).

Also, should I buy the refurbished, and not the retail? I am making all my purchases off newegg.com because they are the best and easiest.

For the sort of money you stated, take a look at the nVidia 6600 GT.

BFG make excellent cards if you can find them in your price range.

6600 does not offer the graphics handling, and new technology like the 6800 GT. And for the price differance it is not the best card of the two for my price range.

Where I live you cannot get a 6800 GT for $300, and I'm assuming you mean U.S dollars!

A 6600 will give you 90% of the performance of the 6800 at 30% of the price.

If you can get a 6800 GT for $300 or less where you are, then I wouldn't hesitate buying one!

Yeah, U.S. Im buying all this stuff from newegg, so I guess you guys cant get that over in Austrilia :\.

Yeargg, that card is AGP not PCI-e. And my mobo only supports PCI-e. Off to look for better thingies.

Your right, the 6600GTs are a better path for my price range. I was over 100$, and just couldnt do that. So I decided to go a SLI path. Buy one now, one later :).

The only problem is I dont know if this card supports SLI or not. It says : SLI Supported No on newegg.com, but it has the thing on the top to make it supportable. And some guy alludes to it having SLI capatibility in the review. It was rated #1 on anandtech.com and seems to be a nice card. The mobo im buying supports SLI so I would like to have the option. Is this SLI capatable?

    6600 GT's and 6800 GT's are SLI capable.

Personally, I don't believe that either the 6800 or ATI 850 chips are worth the money. It's a blantant rip-off.

I don't see any reason to spend more than the price of a 6600 GT, especially when you have SLI as an option for the future.

Anyway, there isn't a game on the market currently that these chips can't play comfortably with decent detail.
