    Oh no!

    Okay, this is what happened:
I was clearing up some old games that I never use anymore, and I accidentally deleted my sound device! And I really, really need sound for my school work and projects, because I often record videos and edit them on my computer, but with no sound that is next to impossible! This is pretty ergent that I fix this problem.

I was clicking on one of my songs that I've saved on my computer, and this is the message that appears (from Windows Media Player):

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a file with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another computer, or it might not be functioning properly."

I have a windows XP notebook/laptop, and if there is anyone who can help me fix this problem, I would be very appreciative to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank-you so much!
    -Briana :)

P.S. I don't know if this helps you any, but the error message code is: C00D11BA.

    Hi, it's me again...

I just found out another fact that might make fixing my problem easier:

I have a TOSHIBA SD Card Type A Controller and also an Atheros AR5001X Wireless Network Adapter!

    Does this help you any?

Once again, I appreciate anything that you can say or do to help me!!!! ;)

Hi Briana, SORRY for missing your thread asking for driver help, sometimes they just slip by.

First off could you tell us the Model and any name/number version of your Toshiba laptop as this will help us trace the correct driver.

In th emean time there are a few things you could try, go into the device manager ( Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager and look for any yellow ! marks in sound devices, if their are any double click them and choose Driver, then you can try 2 things, either Update Driver which will try and search for an compatible driver ( sometimes works ok in finding one ) or choose if highlighted Roll Back ( only works if a driver has been updates and has a previous driver saved )

To also aide us in finding all the info you may need download and install
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html EVEREST as it will tell you many things about what hardware you have and also gives the download locations of companys driver pages.

Thanks for the help, Halo...I tried what you suggested, and so here is my model number: PSA40C-09CXV

Also, I tried following the steps that you also suggested. You said:
"go into the device manager ( Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager and look for any yellow ! marks in sound devices, if their are any double click them and choose Driver, then you can try 2 things, either Update Driver which will try and search for an compatible driver ( sometimes works ok in finding one ) or choose if highlighted Roll Back ( only works if a driver has been updates and has a previous driver saved )"

I tried to do that, but I couldn't see any yellow ! marks. I think I got where you told me to go though. ;) When I clicked on the names before clicking on "driver", there was a little bit of info posted underneath the names, and every single one of them said "Device status: This device is working properly", except for one of them...and for this one, it said:

    Manufacturer: C-Media
Location: PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5
Device status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I tried to update it, and then this message came up: "CANNOT CONTINUE THE HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARDThe wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed."

to me, this still makes no sense, but hopefully you will understand it! :)

Once again, thanks for you help!
    -Briana

P.S. I'm about do download/install that Everest program right after I post this.
