Real Shame just received in mail
As of March 24, 2004 we have decided to discontinue the development project that we all know as AIDA32. Development of AIDA32 has been started years ago, and the project went first public in April 2001. AIDA32 has become the de facto standard for both home and corporate system diagnosis and network audit, winning several awards including "Freeware Product of the Year" by Support Alert newsletter in December 2002.

Aida32.hu has well served this project almost without any issues, providing access to over half a million of users in 150 countries worldwide. For the exceptional quality of service, we'd like to send our special thanks to Hunet Kft, our internet service provider and software supplier.

To help you find products to relieve AIDA32, hereby we publish our favorites:

    Me too, no question.

The bummer is, as time passes and newer tech CPUs, mobo chipsets, etc. are introduced, it won't be able to detect that new hardware properly. Kinda like the old DOS Norton SysInfo reporting you had a 166MHz 486!

But for now it still rules.

Ya looks identical to aida32. I noticed it has the hard drive temps, I did not know they had sensors to read temps.

Guys! Shame on you! Don't you see that Everest is the old good Aida but now this is a COMMERCIAL project, although there is a free limited version.

I guess this does explain everything, doesn't it? ;)

OK, so this DOES appear to be AIDA in commercial clothing. Now, I've always used the Home edition of AIDA until recently, and found it absolutely fine for my needs, but recently tried the pro version (it's really for multi-machine use on a network, but I use separate copies on my three individual machines) and haven't found that there's anything new in the so-called Pro that I need that isn't in the Home.

Now I've looked over the comparison tables for Pro, Pro NR (non-remote), and Home at the Everest site, and can't think of a good reason to get the Pro for money over the Home for free.

Anybody*** have an argument in favour of the $30 Pro?

(Software inventory in AIDA 32 is trivial for home machines. I know a lot more about my software complement than AIDA does, cuz half of it isn't "installed." The only software AIDA reports is software that's in Add-Remove Programs. A big diff between Pro and Home Everest is the software component.)

(***I mean, of course, anybody who is not managing a corporate multi-machine intranet with twenty or more computers to monitor.)

(Thanks, Mr. r! I've had a very busy work run lately, and haven't had much time for the finer, more enjoyable things of life, like working with "the best of the best" on problems posted on Major Geeks. I've missed my MG time. Hope I'll be able to start again soon.)

Yeah, I'm thinking that I'll run the new Everest (Home) beside the final AIDA (Home) for a while; make sure I'm convinced that the new Everest is up to the AIDA standard. Once I know Everest is fully as good as AIDA32, I'll take AIDA out and use Everest exclusively.

It looks as though what happened is that the Quebec firm (Lavalys = Laval + the lys of the Quebec flag) bought the Hungarian operation. If the Montreal people have any sense, they'll make it worth Tamas Miklos's time to hang around and continue development for them. Hope so, anyway. AIDA was (is) one of the finest pieces of freeware ever made available to geeks and support people.
