AIM Crash!!!! Need Help!!!!!

Whenever I log into AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) everything is fine and dandy but when I send or recieve an instant message, the application crashes. I have reinstalled it many times and have installed it to different locations. I have went there and beyond in virus/adware removal, anyone know the problem? Could maybe an older version work? Could someone send me an older version? I have read somewhere that Home Search Assistant/Search Extender could cause it to crash, but I have found and removed those programs.........Can anyone help.
