AIM Issues

I turned on AIM today only to find out that all of a sudden AIM now takes about 80% of my system resources and slows everything else waaayyy down. Without AIM on everything runs fast and smooth so I doubt it's a virus. I even scanned my computer and it didn't find anything. The only I've downloaded lately is .NET Framework 1.1 and I deleted that today. Any ideas?

 

I would put the update for the framework back on. Its a security patch. As for AIM, i would say try running aim fix and see if that helps. I ran it on mine when it was being a resource hog and it removed something and aim went for hog to weightless just like that.

I used the Run program and put in Aim Fix and all it did was start AIM up. It's still hogging resources like crazy. Should I just uninstall and reinstall?

 

Did you run it wihth aim exe shut down?

Aim fix is a type of antivirus for aim. You can get it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4348.html
save it to the desktop or somethin, shut down aim and run it. It will automatically run and clean anything it finds. At this point it will spit out a log file which you can view if you want and delete it if ya want. Come back and tell us how it is running after that lol.

oh i notice that sometimes my internet will cut out and im im guessing it might be because of my aim is that possible oh and i have a router do you think aim could be causeing it to cut out

Nah thats a bug in the program. Run aim fix, and use the latest aim versions and you will be fine. If you are not haveing a problem mountmountai you should not worry bout it.

I downloaded GAIM today and it works and it doesn't hog up system resources. Should I just stick with it?

Well kittens do you want to use aim or not. You probably can try reinstalling aim to stop it from hogging the rescources. Just clean up any remnants of the program once it is uninstalled. Then install it again. Mountai, you still have not answered my queation as to what your problem is! I cant help u till i know what is going on.

i have the latest update for aim messenger but im not sure how to see if its being a resource hog um how do i do that

um i think 60gb

i have no clue how much ram

 

If there is no problem with aim i really wouldnt bother with it and just use it as it is. Because if we mess with somthin working it wont work and then you will have real trouble.

Ok im sorry. How you can tell this is easy. Just go to your taskmanager and look at the program aim.exe. That will show you how much memory it is using (in kb), the anmount of cpu cycles its using, and other information about the program. But judeging if its a recouce hog is different from computer to computer Like if it was being a hog it will be like draining alot of recources. I cannot tell you wether it is or is not the problem. That would depend on things like your machine specs, how aim usually runs on your machine, and many other factors. It will usually cause applications to slow down when a program is using a large amount of recources.

ok i went to processes and it had everything listed on aim.exe it says 11.628k is that normal

i hold down ctrol alt and delete and it comes up and under processess

its got aim.exe 11.628k and the 11.628 is under memory usage
