AIM Upgrade Unsuccessful- Program closes with out signing on.

Howdy, My name is Michael and here's my situation:

I'm running Windows XP: Home Edition. I upgraded my AOL Instant Messenger from v5.2.3292 to the lastest AIM release, v5.5.3595 . The upgrade installation went seemingly successful. Here is the problem, when I run aim the sign on screen loads up just fine but as soon as I click sign on or set-up, one of two things happens; 1) an error messege pops-up:

2) the program simply closes.

I tried fully uninstalling AIM and then redownloading the install file and installing again. The same problem occurs. I would also another error messege which looks something like a MSMessenger error I get on my CPU:

I tried a number of things. I tried d/ling the ntdll.dll file from an internet source and replacing the dll file in the windows/system32 folder. This didn't fix anything. I've also d/led all Windows critical updates. I'm stuck and I don't know how to help myself at this point except to post this messege and hope there is someone out there who can help me.
