    Hi Guys,

I recently got broadband connected with swift broadband, I moved and I didnt want to pay the relocation price when I was with telstra, also they are getting very pricey so when we moved I just got it disconnected.

Anyway I recently got connected to swift by my girlfriend who saw how at a loss I was without it and how violent I became when using dialup, hehe

Anyway, I got the mega plan, the max, the 1500kbps (187.5K/Sec Download) and 256kbps (32K/Sec Upload)... with a 24 Gigabye a month download peak/offpeak, basically totalling 48 Gigs down, 24GB during peak which is 8am until 11:59pm, offpeak being 12AM until 7:59AM

Well, I've been using my donkey now, and I have been getting terrible downloads, if and when they do download, even for files that have high sources, and I get a hi ID. and when I downloaded a demo, from a local aussie server, it wouldnt peak over 100K/Sec, it would also stick around 70/80 K/Sec MAX, I went to the chat room for swift and talked to some guys their and they reckon it would be working fine, and my modem or PC must be the problem, well I was about to re-format becuase in IE I get a 'cant read memory' error at 0x0t33463343 or alike every once in a while and I think its related to something I`ve updated and/or installed.

But before I was going to format, I thought I might as well fiddle around with stuff software wise now, so when I format I can work out what I can/have to do without causing a massive mess...

I also had my modem in bridged mode and thought I should try and reset my modem first, so I did a google search and I didnt find out how to reset my modem as yet, but I did find this!

    http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~speed/misc/index.php?content=5

That contains 2 firmware upgrades for your modem, I decided to try that becuase that in itself resets the modem to dafults, and it was the best thing I did, my performance in my ADSL connection increased dramatically, I cleaned my systems caches and temp files thenI restarted my system and modem, first thing I did was open a browser, told it to go to majorgeeks and within 4 seconds the page was freshly loaded, something that would take a bit longer anyway, then I downloaded the flatout demo, I downloaded it before the firmware update and got the 70/80K/Sec max download, but this time I got 180K/Sec and it sat on that and didnt go below it at all!

I thought maybe that was in the cache somehow, so I tryed downloading Live For Speed full version at http://www.liveforspeed.net/ and I got 150 to 160 k/Sec min!

So I guess the bottom line to the story is the new firmware update can do nothing more that increase your performace on your speedtouch 530 DSL modem.

Also note that I use the ethernet method of my speedtouch and not the USB2.0

Hope this can help some of your with the same modem.

    cheers
