Alchol 120% or another program for backup

I want to make backup copies of my dvds, and of my computer games, so my children don't destroy the originals. This will be ONLY for my personal use. The kids can use the backups, and I will keep the 'good' originals hidden.

I have had success with Alcohol 120%, but is there another program which will do as good a job, or better, available? I've heard of Clone CD, but I'm not sure it will work as well.

I'm looking for more information before I buy. I'd like to physically own the disc, if possible, and I'd rather not pay the 'per year' fee. A one-time purchase would be nice.
