This started a few days ago. Stopping some services fixed it. Same crap next day. Restarting with updates fixed it. Same the next day. Running CCleaner seemed to fix it. Back again today and nothing is fixing it. About a 2 to 3 second lag with both keyboard and mouse. Firefox, Opera, Chrome.

    Help appreciated.

If you believe in conspiracy theories, I should mention that I tried Edge for the first time and there was NO lag.

Well yeh....Edge being native to 10 runs fast! It does me :)
I do prefer the Google search engine to Bing, but that is easily fixed, and its hard to guage if this affects Edge performance overall.

I no longer bother with 3rd party browsers.

Do you leave your computer on? Are browsers the only thing you are trying to run at the time? The wife shuts her computer down and has issues like this when she starts up, I stopped the majority of startup apps, looks like Defender is the issue in her case.

Yes, I leave it on but browsers are all shut down. And the lagging is happening in Edge this morning.

The issue is back again. CCleaner didn't fix it. Checking startups didn't solve it. Hitman found ONE tracking cookie, deleted it and that fixed it. WTH??

i'm a lightweight here, so i don't presume to know the answer. but i had a PC with "browser hang" so bad, i'd have to wait 2-3 HOURS before it became responsive.

other apps, things downloading, etc., continued along w/o interruption. it's just i couldn't SEE them happening or get a mouse/cursor to do anything. but if i checked filespeeds or timestamps of newly written files after the fact, i could see they'd been continuing along fine in the background the whole time.

SOMETIMES killing off the browser would fix things. but it could take 30-40 mins getting TASK MANAGER open just to try this. usually the choice came down to: wait 3 hours till things "popped" and everything went back to normal, or...HARD CRASH the PC and do a fresh boot.

i don't know what it was, but i decided maybe DISPLAY ITSELF more than the browser? as in, EVERYTHING was working fine, i just couldn't see/interact with it?
