All my USB devices restart randomly, and I have no idea why.

I wasn't even using my computer when this happened the 1st time as I was on a facetime call with a friend on my phone, so I am not even sure what triggered this.

Right now, I have 4x external HDD, a webcam, my Focusrite Scarlett Solo sound interface, a Pioneer DDJ-400 connected via USB aside from the usual peripherals. These have always been connected.

I restarted my PC, nothing changed, USB's still restart.

I went to Device Manager and noticed a yellow ! on my Focusrite Scarlett Solo SI. So I first tried to update the driver through the Device Manager. It yielded no results. Then I went to Focusrite's website to manually download the drivers for my specific model. Restarted my PC. Didn't work.

I then went into the 'Edit Power Plan' into Advanced Power Settings, USB Settings, USB Selective Suspended Setting and changed it from Enabled to Disabled. I thought that had worked, but alas, my USB's started to restart again.

What could be causing this? I've restarted my PC several times, turned it off then back on and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

All plugged in to the mobo, an expansion card or hub? You're right on the first part, disabling power control.
Plug and unplug devices until you maybe narrow it down to one.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have a Tomahawk mobo (I’m not home rn, so I can’t really look up the exact model of it) and a 8 input USB 3.0 PCI-E card connected to it. All of my 4 externals are connected to the PCI-E expansion.

In total, I have about 10 devices connected to USB, which has been relatively the same amount of devices connected for more than a year.

However, since I was getting no response from here and google/youtube searches didn’t really yield any helpful results, I started trying to troubleshoot myself, but with no avail. But I did notice something: one of my 4 external HDD’s never turned on. So when my USB’s would restart, I noticed that only 3 of the HDD’s would restart and so when I opened ‘This Computer’ I noticed that one of my externals didn’t restart and would remain turned off. So I disconnected it and this issue stopped.

So I found the culprit but I am still unaware of the reason. Is this external broken? I haven’t a clue. I don’t want to reconnect it as I don’t want to risk corrupting data on my other externals from constantly restarting.
