Hi just a quick question. A friend is considering buying a good well built system and is currently stuck between the two.
Two major ones that caught his eye are the :
Quad 2.5 Ghz Power Pc G5
    http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebO...28Ut4PKmq3DoeDr/0.SLID?nclm=PMG5&mco=2E756B2A
    Second option is
    http://www.alienwaresystems.com.au/dnn2/default.aspx?tabid=104&ConfigurationID=33
    Area-51® 5500
The main usage will be mainly for multimedia applications, video edditing, movies music and the odd game here and there. (new titles obviously)
After looking at it I thought that it would be a bit of a waste to get the apple as seeing it would not play all the latest titles as "Windows" would.
Anyway another option I guess would be something at a simmilar price with the simmilar setup.
    Thanks guys

I would go w/ Alienware --- but then again I am a pc guy, I guess it really depends on the preference of the owner(Pc or g5) as I watch the classes from the local university on public access about working w/ mac and even though I know a bit about pc's I am definetly lost when it comes to mac(kinda like watching the spanish channel-I get about every 3rd word)

i guess it depends on what he's going to be doing with it. if he's going to be doing any gaming, i would suggest the alienware. if not, i'd get the 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 (apple link above doesn't work). Both are exactly the same price.

Shows you how grossly overpriced Alienware is, if they are matching Apple.

I agree with ace. Gaming aside, the Quad G5 is a monster. We can't compare further of course, because your link is dead.

Pick up a copy of PC User and PC Authority etc.

They usually have a PC comparison of some great gaming and multimedia systems (almost monthly) built by white box Melbourne and Sydney manufacturers.

Won't be Apple or Alienware, but just as powerful and cheaper.

    Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors

    1.25GHz frontside bus per processor

    1MB L2 cache per core

    512MB memory (533MHz DDR2 SDRAM)

The alienware is about the same price roughyl after the custom setup... I think even the apple he will be customizing it more but this is just the start off point. I will have to ask him tomorrow to get the exact details

You can get a white box PC custom made that is faster, better specs, for considerably less.

    That (AUS$5,299) is a damn rip-off! (You don't even get a 6600GT, just a 6600)

How they justify charging SO much is beyond me, even for Apple and Alienware?
