Windows 11 (the free download) on a HP Pavilion desktop with the Intel core i3 8th Gen. Was working fine until suddenly everything on the screen was a double image and then it crashed. Rebooted and it went into repair mode instead of the Win11 screen. It diagnosed itself then tried to repair itself to no avail. Then it gave me chances to fix it but it had no "save point" to go back to, I don't have a recovery disk, etc. It said it was trying to fix some errors on the hard drive, but could not. When I chose "continue to Windows 11," it started the diagnose and repair dialogue all over again. I swapped out the hard drive for a known good hard drive and got the same exact issues. Diagnoses, but can't repair. Looks to me like it's something on the motherboard, Any thoughts?
Fortunately I still have 3 good laptops and the old desktop that the good hard drive came out of, but this crashed HP is only 2 years old!

OK, the computer says it has Windows 10 10.0.22000.1 on it, not Windows 11. I've run all the diagnostics and tests that the troubleshoot menu allows me to do. The only thing I can think of to do is to reload Win10. However, it wants a product license key. The computer came with Win10 on it, but there doesn't appear to be a product license key anywhere. So I looked up "how to find your product license key from the Command prompt." It tells you to enter the following after the command prompt comes up:

    wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

I tried this on the laptop I'm using and it worked. I tried it on the almost dead computer and it doesn't work. Any thoughts?

Microsoft tells me (in the text, not actually talking to me) that the product key might be embedded in the computer, so I might not need an actual copy of it. We shall see.

The product key was embedded, the computer reloaded Win10 without a problem. It is, for those of you who don't know, a destructive reload. It doesn't get your data, but any programs (like Office) that weren't on the computer when you bought it, will be gone after the reload. So be ready to load everything back on. At least it works now.
    Problem solved.
