Alright.. We have no idea what happened. I had to replace a fan in my moms computer this morning. Made sure I didn't bump the hd cable. Plugged in.. got something like c:/windows/system32/system missing.

Pulled comp out.. checked cables again.. all fine.. Bright me.. went and did a fixboot in the recovery console... stupid stupid.. So now the thig is giving the dreaded missing ntldr message. So .. I tried coping the files.. Says access denied..

It seems to be reporting the hd as 10gb in the "dos". Yet running diskpart shows the full 200gb.

At this point.. I'm way over my head.. plz help. lol

Is it possible that my attempted repair messed with the parititon info? I did a dir listing of c after the repair program couldn't find boot.ini. It's all jumbled and something isn't right. It's not reporting any free space. I'm guessing I'm pretty much screwed here, but is there any way to repair a partition?

Then I would do a repair not a recovery ....do install when you get to the recovery option ..then f8 to the agreement ...then it will find the xp install and you can choose repair (R) ......it will hopefully save all your files and settings and programs ....just not the updates.

It's not finding it because of the partition issue. It the instilation side haults when it finds there are 3mb free on the drive.
