    Hi,

Running ME, and my cd just started ejecting cd's whenever I put one in. Drive is D, but when I enter dos, it say my drive is E, but I can't access either D or E. I have unplugged the drive, rebooted, deleted the drive, shutdown, plugged back in and still nothing. Says my sec. master is CDROM, mode 4 during startup. When I check msconfig, I get the following message:

Environment variables found in legacy file AUTOEXE.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS and variables have been moved to Windows registry.

Also, my monitor will just go blank (not blue screen) and if I shut down and let it sit for a day, it works again.

Have anti-virus, spyware etc. loaded and running. I have not updated for a bit, since when I do, my machine is screwed unitl I delete the updates or do a restore, so I am a bit gun shy.

    Thanks for any help.

If you boot to DOS (with CD support) do you get the same problem? Try a Win98SE boot disk if you can't do it from ME (shudder!!! ). This should give a clue as to whether it is a hardware (maybe) or software (probably) problem.

thanks to all, but the problem is solved

    Re: CD drive dead

The CD itself was the problem. Bought a used one for $10.00. As to ME, just waiting for my Mac, then no more problems.
