Whenever I type Alt + 0134 in an online game called Ragnarok Online, it always makes a question mark (?). But when i tried in the internet cafe, it becomes a cross.. but when i try it on browsers, notepads, it becomes (♦)

How can it be a correct cross??

most games only have a certain number of alt codes you can put in. your game just doesnt support the † symbol.

click on start>run and type "charmap". it lists all the characters for the font you are using.

each font has different codes, hence why you get a different symbol, i think.

Must depend on your OS. "charmap" not present in W98SE, for example. Bazza

The character map is available as a windows component in Win9x. To install, open control panel, and double click add/remove programs. On the windows setup tab, under system tools the character map should be an available option. You will require the install CD for this.

I thought that was installed by default. Found under Programs/Accessories/System Tools

Hmm...I don't think that it is. I could be wrong, but what I do know is that you can specify whether or not to install it when you are installing the OS.

Musta missed it when I installed W98SE on another box, recently. It is certainly not on my PC, by whatever method I use to find it. Will dig out my original CD and install it from there. Thanks. Bazza

Thanks M_M. Only components, under the Windows tab, I have not installed are:

    Accessibility
    Multi Language Support
    and Web TV for Windows.

I'm guessing it is under "Multi Language Support" (duhhhhhhhh).
I will install that component when I logoff today. I have the original CD, so that is not a problem. Bazza

Well I tried it, M_M. No joy.
Added "Multi-Language Support", but that only relates to various non-english languages. Still cannot find any reference to a "character map" on my original M$ W98SE CD.
Would appreciate an exact path to find it on the CD, and the file name if it is not obvious. Other than that, I will google for "charmap", "W98SE", and see what happens. Bazza
