Is there any way of getting a computer to enter safe mode without using F8? If I could do a simple restart and enter safe mode it would be a lot more convienent than waiting on my bootup (an possibly missing the golden window of opertunity).

This is the alternative way of rebooting into Safe Mode without using F8

Click Start > Run > In Run dialog box type msconfig > Click OK.

In the System Configuration Utility click the BOOT.INI tab > pop a check mark next to /SAFEBOOT > Click Apply > OK and re-boot.

To return to Normal boot, redo the steps above and this time un-check /SAFEBOOT click Apply > Ok

and to your question from another thread, Yes XP does have a safe mode and is accessed by F8 or the above, an MSKB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222

OK, I'm getting into the system configuration utility. Been here a few times, but very cautiously. I don't quite see what you are refering to after that though, I'm using Win98SE. Here is the screen I get up on my laptop, which I am discovering doesn't have all the utilities I take for granted as my regular computer, so some editing of the JPG file is require to attach. Thanks for the help. I haven't set my XP disk, but I have everything I need when I get back from Christmas vacation.

Thank you. Looks like my questions are answered, until I get into XP. I do like the older OSes though, like C64 BASIC, C128 BASIC, GW BASIC (opps, not an OS there), and Win98SE. I never liked win98 much, but the SE seemed to have solved most of the bugs. Besides learning XP, the other reason I'm starting with it is to use larger HD sizes. Video editing eats HD space in large bytes.
