Alternative Scans FAQ

Might I suggest that potential users of the Alternative Scans FAQ may like to apply the various scans in order of diminishing ability to find baddies.

I'm sure that its impossible to rank these programs on absolute terms, but even a subjective ranking by an experienced user would be helpful to time-challenged users.

The ranking should probably be cross-category, ie

1st (on-line)
2nd (download)
etc

Not really sure what you are on about. We have it set up the way we like it and find that it works. Are you going to attach logs in your other thread in malware? As you did say something still does not seem right....

I don't think I'm "on about" anything, but then I don't speak the dialect that uses that phrase, so I'm not sure!

It was merely a suggestion for consideration!

My point is:

New User A (ie, not specific to me) goes to the FAQ....

NUA wants to maximize the use of his/her time in scanning their PC - so (assuming that they will not run EVERY listed program).....

....which program would / should NUA choose to run 1st? 2nd? 3rd?

NUA chooses programs alphabetically, as set up?

NUA chooses programs based on "catchy" names?

or maybe...NUA chooses a program based on a (additional) recommendation from an experienced MG moderator.

As I said, just for consideration.

Anyway, think you all for what you do here.

They are not ranked in any order as far as effectiveness or for specific infections. They are listed because they provide additional scanning when there is still an issue but it may not be showing clearly. Plus in many cases, some may not be able to be run, so it's listed for trial and error purposes. Just like the instructions in the Read and Run First thread, if something doesn't run, skip it and move on to the next one.
