Alternative to chkdsk that actually fixes?

Hey all- I've gotten some great support here in the past, figured I'd try for chkdsk too. My notebook didn't go into hibernation mode properly at one point and I discovered a pretty crummed up disk as a result.

The problem is that it took chkdsk after chkdsk to get it operational, and it still behaves like it's got plenty of bad sectors. Chkdsk kept finding new problems with each scan, and I'm pretty fed up with it.

    I know about this product:

But it seems all it does is monitor, not fix. So what can you recommend as an alternative to that woeful piece of junk MS includes with XP?

    Thanks all!

I have a pretty weird setup with two primary bootable partitions.
Someone would say that this is impossible, but i have it.SOmetimes the pc gets confused and can not decide which one to use.Actually only the second primary partition can boot.
I always fix this error either from the installed recovery console , or when that can not be started , from the windows cd recovery console.
I fix it using chkdsk /p /r .It works like charm every time.

Well, chkdsk is not junk by any means, and from the symptoms you have described I would think it more likely your hard disk is nearing the end of its life. Try the hard disk manufacturer's website, as they probably have a disk checking utility for free download.

Hate to bump and old topic on my first post, but I'm having a CHKDSK problem too and I tried this but it says that /p is an invalid parameter.
