I recently had to put a new harddrive in my Thinkpad. We only had a upgrade for XP and installed Windows 2000 and then upgraded to the XP. Now my Google Earth does not want to work in Direct X. I have uninstalled it more than once and downloaded the directx updates, but nothing seems to make it work good. Any more suggestions....? Was the XP upgrade missing something? Thanks for any help.

I have had Google Earth just not work for no apparent reason myself. It will work fine on one PC, but on another, it just didn't work no matter what. To this day I never found an explanation despite many forays into the Google Earth support and help and FAQ pages. The problems I had with GE, it would install OK, but when I'd run it, it just wouldn't do anything; it would open, and that was it. No errors, no crashing, nothing weird other than it just not working. I know this doesn't help, but I just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone in this.... all I can suggest would be to make sure you have the current updates and have at least SP2 installed.... I'm sure you've already been here but if not, maybe something there will help.

I hope this helps at least a little, and good luck! Let us know if you get it figured out.

Have you updated the latest Motherboard Chipset drivers, there may be variation in the chipset instructions between the differing operating systems (OS's), you could also try and update to the latest Video Drivers (even if "onboard" VGA) as there maybe OS differences again.
