I cannot believe that no one can help me to place a simple RealPlayer icon over any media file in any folder. Unbelievable!

    Ummm,
Did you try the ordinary, standard way of assigning a new icon to a file-type? You'll have to do it for EACH file-type, because no Windows OS recognizes a file-type called "any media file."

Open Windows Explorer. Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Scroll down to the file type you want to assign a new icon to. Click it. Click the Advanced button below, if it shows, and the Restore button if there is no Advanced button. If you click the Restore button, it will be replaced by the Advanced button. Click it. Click Change Icon. Navigate to a file that has the icon you want. Select it.

    Close the File Types panels.

Reboot, because you've made a registry change, and Windows Explorer won't respond until it reads the registry during boot-up again.

You have to find every instance of the file-type in the file-types panel. If it has two or three entries, spelled two or three ways, all have to be changed to the icon you want.

(Sorry. Didn't see your earlier post about trying this, but I think you may be missing the "all instances" and the "reboot" requirements.)

Personally, I would never use RealPlayer or QuickTime. There are 2 programs available for download that allow the running of those supported file types without the need of the program itself.

Star17, what would those two programs be ? I would like to know so I could remove QuickTime..... Thanks CT
Sorry to interupt, just want some info related to your post...

You could'nt. We tried. We dont know what kind of crap your surfing or installing, so theres a lot of variables. Did you ever try RealPlayer support? Frankly, your tone has me, for one, not interested in even trying.
