AMD 2700 being misreported in the BIOS

Ok, hey, here's my problem, any of you great people can help, I'd be most greatful

I'm running an AMD 2700+ XP Athlon processor on a A7N8X Motherboard. This board is running a phoneix award bios, and it's 400MHZ ready, but it's running on 333MHZ, I belive.

When I bought it, it said it'd be at 2.18GHz, instead I'm getting 1.5GHz, and my bios is saying it's an AMD 1500+ chip. I just put the thing together, IE, I bought it all myself (OEM, yes, I know, big mistake)

Do I need to flash the bios\install drivers or what? I'm so totally lost Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I'd try flashing the BIOS. It may be that the BIOS version doesn't auto detect processors of the speed you have.

 

Asus by default runs the CPU at the lowest bus speed possible the first boot (100mhz, 200mhz DDR). It is up to you to change it to the correct speed.


An Athlon XP 1500+ runs at 1.3ghz.

An Athlon XP 2700+ is running at 2.18ghz

Using simple math, a multiplier of 13 with a 333mhz DDR bus (166x3), = approx an Athlon XP 2700+, @ 2.16ghz

Take that same multiplier of 13, run it on a 200mhz DDR bus (100x2)= Athlon XP 1500+, @ 1.3ghz.


Pretty straightforward.

There is nothing wrong with OEM
