Is there any problem with having different quality (or for future reference, size) RAM sticks in the different pairs.

    I have an AMD64 3500+, A8V Mobo, Asus 6800GT, 160 GB SAMSUNG SpinPoint P80 SATA and KINGSTON ValueRam KVR400X64C3AK2/1G, 1024MB = 2 x 512, PC400, CL3.

I want to upgrade the RAM and my choices are 2 more sticks of the same or get two sticks of the Hyper X version - the price diff is between CHF 134 and 220.

    Cheers.

    Or KINGSTON ValueRam KVR400X64C3AK2/2G, 2048MB = 2x 1024, PC400, CL3 for CHF 263

Is your AMD 64 3500+ a Venice core? If not, then when you put in another 2x512 DDR 400, all your memory is going to drop to DDR 333.

Um... how do I tell? I have the box sitting in front of me but no idea.

diff ram mfg/sizes do cause problems if you use em in pairs; if its diff speeds they default to the slower of the two speeds.
