AMD 64 Temp Guidelines?

I installed my nice shiny new Gigabyte GA-K8N mobo and AMD64 3000+ last night with a Thermaltake A1744 Venus 12 HSF.

First the drama, the HSF can be connected in three ways, controller in a 3.5" bay (no good, haven't got any free), a controller in a PCI slot and a temp probe. I thought I'd be clever and connect both the probe and the PCI controller. With the PCI rheostat turned down as far as it would go, the fan was at about 6000rpm! Sounded like the server room at work! Once I disconnected the rheostat it sits at about 2100 rpm and the CPU temp is 29C. Under load (PCMark 2004) it increased to about 2600rpm and 33C.

Question is, does anyone else have comparable temps for an Athlon64? These temps seem very low compared to the 55C I was getting from my old Athlon 2000+

 

you should look at the AMD website for the maximum temps for the A64, though I'd say that looks about good, my friend's A64 3200+ runs about 38*C under full load with the normal AMD hsf.

 

It is well in line with what AMD say, it just seemed low. If other people can get low temps as well, I'm not so worried. It idles at 33C now I've o'clocked it to 2.3Ghz

 

put an athlon 64 3200 in an Asus mainboard. under load it was peaking about 41 with the retail box HSF and "Cool n Quiet" enabled. We are talking about a retail machine here, so it got the warratied heatsink. With retail heatsink and one exhaust case fan it was idling about 33 and peaking at 41. Case temp of 30.
