hi. im new to the overclocking business and was just wondering whether its worth doing. here's how it goes. i have an amd 64bit 3000+ processor, 8months old running in my machine @ 2.0 ghz as expected. I want to know what speeds it could get (max) and would it be stable at its max clock speed. what are the advantages and cons of overclocking also. Thanks, Jack

i am also running on a Gigabyte K8VT800 Pro motherboard. Ihave been told this motherboard may be locked to overclocking. Is this true? if so is there another way around overclocking (not through bios)?

Some softs can do it but it depend on the IC chip that You can OC in Windows :
    CPUFSB, CrystalCPUID, RightmarkCPU

geting higher OCing, You have to get a good PSU over 450w and good ram by raising CPU FSB over 250 at ratio DF, or reducing ratio to get higher FSB at Vcore DF->1v5, 1v6 or over but t* must be under 50* at full load

Im currently running my a64 3200+ 300mhz overclocked and its temp is still relativly low (29-30c idle).

V.core unfortunatly doesnt go beyond 1.45v on this mobo :( I need a hacked 1.36mod bios but im lazy to put it in. I tryed 10x240 but It didnt boot windows, not sure if it was the processor or the memory since they are already oc'd and the got oc'd even further, got to investigate when I have more time on my hands.

10x240 at DF Vcore You can not log in Win, is there any Error? or computer automatically restart. Base on your computer System You can change the above figure without changing anything from Vcore, vDim and Cas of ram, sure. with my Computer I tryed at DF vcore at 295x9 at 1v4 and 300x9 at 1v45 but it not pass SPI

I tryed 10x240 1.45vcore (1.4 default) didnt boot. right now im 10x230 @ 1.45vcore. I already changed my timings on my ram. (check sig)

You should set DF of ram at 2 2 2 5 and raise Vdim ( 240x10) or set at 2 3 2 5 at DF VDim

I will once I get my other gig of ram in the mail.

    Yeah, that 's great.
I remember your mobo bios can not get over 2v8 Vdim, so the reason here is that you can not get so far as you wish. I think that You will mod or hack bios.
I run at (330x8) at 1v7 with WC and Vdim at 3v2(1:1) 1t, DFI mobo support to 4v at Vdim.
