I'm running an A64 X2 5400+ socket AM2 processor at stock speeds (2.80ghz). Everything is fine, at idle the CPU cores are 43-49c and occasionally hit 50c for a second or two. Under a load, they go up about 6 degrees to 48-55/56c. The highest temp I have ever recorded was 57c, once, for about 3 seconds, and then it dropped and stayed at 55c (during a Serious Sam II session and the heat in the room was cranking pretty good, it was mid January). Anyway, do I need Cool-N-Quiet? What are the pros and cons of running it? Does it use resources at all?

Well, I checked my BIOS and Cool-N-Quiet was disabled, so I enabled it. And I went to my motherboard maker's web site and downloaded and installed the newest Cool-N-Quiet for my model. Temps have dropped by 8-10c!!! :cool I was starting to worry, thinking that my temps were too high for idle and I almost bought a new cooling setup (an Arctic Freezer64) but installing the AMD C-n-Q seems to be doing it's thing quite well....
    I'm stoked :dancer
