I'm looking for a cheap upgrade from my current socket 939 setup. I can figure out the motherboard, but I'm still not sure which one of these AMD cpus to get:

Am I wrong in that those CPUs are basically the same thing, just the 3.1ghz comes with a higher stock clock, and the 2.6 can be OC'd to the 3.1, thereby saving money? Last time I went CPU shopping was for an athlon 64, and there were two versions of the CPU I got: one was 2ghz stock, and the other was 2.4ghz stock, but all other specs were the same, and the 2ghz cpu easily went to 2.4 with no worries and ran stable for quite some time...and the price gap was $80 I believe.

good point my man...but you should job up to the 5600+ you'll get a 2 mb L2 cache which is a big deal actually and still not enough but better..you can save even more by buying a retail verison that doesn't include a heatsink...buy the stock heated of a 6000+ i'm hear it actually works better than most aftermarket units...well good luck

Thanks. I can probably transfer my current HS+fan to the new one to save some cash for the meantime. Forgot about the L2 caches.
