ok i overclocked my opteron 170 i cant seem to get passed 2.8ghz my temps are fine idle at 22c and full load at 34c at 2.75 but i cannot get it to run windows for very long my temps are all good i have tried hiring the voltages but no luck i have seen these babies hit 3ghz without a sweat
what do u think can be done do u think its my ram right now i am stable at 1.437 vcore

    heres my specs
    A8N-SLI Deluxe
    AMD Opteron 170 @ 2751
    2gb Twinx(2x1GB) Corsair
    EvGa 8800 GTX Stock CLocks
Seagate 250 SATA 2 3gb/s with perpendicular writing Raid 0

Have you tried loosening the timings on your ram?

yeah my timings are currently set at 2.5-3-3-6 i have tried 2-3-3-6 but wont boot

Have you tried to set it at even looser timings to see if it will boot?
And have you also tried to up the voltage a bit (not too much!)?

Have you tried with a PATA HD to boot windows from? SATA is notorious for flaking out when you OC.

What Bios version are you running on that motherboard?

    what PSU are you using?

definitely loosen your timings more, like 2.5-3-3-7.

what's the stock voltage? as long as ur within 115% of stock voltages you're OK for voltages. if you're below, bump it up a lil more. try bumping up your mem. voltages a bit as well.

    ACE! we need ya man!

Have you tried dropping your ram speed way down to rule out ram instability? Is it stable in memtest and the like in dos? What Hal are you running in windows ? With socket A you normally wanted "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" but with 939 you want "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" if your running single core or "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" if your running dual. Now i dont know if that is the correct one to run in XP with 939, but i do know it is the most stable. (changing to ACPI Uniprocessor PC got me from DDR333 to DDR466). I whould say it needs a little more voltage, I would keep it under 1.5 if your on air, but thats me.

Socket 939 dual core running XP use ACPI multiprocessor PC

3Ghz you need more Vcore, many running 3Ghz are 1.5 & higher, Ive seen a few run at 1.4v all these chips are different, no gurantees

You didnt say what multiplier your using or memory divider, ya do know on a 939, what matters most is Max Mhz?

Have you ran DC optimizer & MS DC update
How to install the AMD X2 drivers, hotfix, the correct way.

I want to know what bios the guy with the Asus A8n-Sli Delux was running with his x2 cpu. I have the same Mobo and I just ordered a Opteron 170 E6 stepping and I just wanted to know which bioses supported the x2, As of now I'm running bios ver. 1007 with a Athlon 64 3000+@2.6ghz 1.425v 289x9 HT Link 867 DDR472. I have 2x512megs of Geil Platinum DDR440 Ram@2.80v. So I'm looking forward to overclocking this Opty soon =). I will let you all know what I reach when I'm done! Hehe Wish me luck.

    Well heres the report:

I just recieved my Opty 170 yesterday and...

I got a new "LCB9E 0651 Stepping" I got a lil scared when I seen this because there is not much information out on this stepping. However my fears where set aside =) I put the CPU in my system went to bios and took her right to 270X10@default Volts and it worked like a charm!

I tested with Orthos for 2 hours and went perfect. Next I ran 13 loops of
3dmark 06@1024x768 max grafix settings. I also played Counter-Strike for 2 hours! All went well. The only downfall is AND there is always ONE =)

While running Orthos my load temps where as high as 61c with stock heatsink!
So I will need to invest in better cooling to take this baby higher. I will most likely buy a water rig and see if I can't hit 3gz.

Ok all thats the report for now later...
