Depends what your going to be using the PC for, but at present I would ( and being a life long Intel user ) choose AMD64, albiet to fully utilise 64bit you need a 64bit OS and compatible software which is in its infancy.

if you game alot .. AMD64

if you do alot of video editing ... P4

anything else, it won't matter too much, but I'd cast another vote for the amd64

i'd say that the processor wars are getting up again...both intel and amd are gonna be putting out some serious stuff..AMD is my pick for now

If you are looking that far ahead to buy a new CPU when Vista is released ( possible Sept/Oct 2006 ) then re evaluate what CPU are available around that time, 1 year is a massive timescale in computing and CPUs from either Intel or AMD will be vastly different.

If its now your buying then AMD has the edge, but next year who knows!

Intel doesn't use propaganda, instead it uses bribes and threatens to destroy companies that use AMD's chips instead of theirs.

Which is why AMD has and is sueing them.

Depends on how the price is...

Knowing Intel, they will be even more expensive, instead of cheaper, than IBM cpus.

The price we pay for the oppurtunity to use superior OSes...

To be honest going for AMD or Intel 64bit is worth putting of until like Halo said there is more software out that is made especially for the 64 chips..The prices now to then will about $100 less by the time there is more products to take advantage of the new chips..

I like Intel always have, but Amd is also as good and if not beter. But all in all both their high end chips are so close i cannot see the difference except taste..
