American conquest won't start.

I was just playing quit came back later to play again and now it won't start I keep getting this cannot find 1024 x 768 x 8 mode and then directdraw cannot initiallize.

 

Check DirectX Diagnostic Tool. (start, run and type in dxdiag then OK)


Other options are to uninstall, then reinstall the game, and update your video card drivers.

 

Did it all already.

When you request troubleshooting, the more information you give the better. You wouldn't call up your mechanic and say "my car won't start, what's wrong?" and expect him to have the answer, would you?

Let's start with some basic questions. Do you have problems with any other games or applications? Have you run dxdiag and tested it's functionality? I couldn't find the version of DirectX the game requires on their website, but what version of directX are you running? What settings are your desktop at? What graphics card do you have? Have you tried to post in the American Conquest forums? Perhaps it's a well known problem within that community.

 

Just one but it's a different problem, I tested DirectX and it's working fine. I can play all my other games. I'm running the lastest version. 1024 X 768 X 16bit. I was running fine and then it just died.

 

Your PC just scraps past minimum requirements for the game, so I'm surprised it ran at all.

All you can do is try playing around with different resolutions, as well as using the latest patch, 1.46 I think.

Make sure you aren't using any No CD patches as they are notorious for bugs.


You can try reinstalling it, but don't use the same path. Try another folder.

 

How do I change Res with out getting into the game.

 

Some games have a settings entry in the games start menu folder, don't know about this particular game though.

You can also try setting your desktop to say, 800 x 600, then starting the game.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the game completely, then reinstall using a different path.

For example, if it was in C:\Program Files\American Conquest, change it to C:\American Conquest or whatever so it creates a different registry entry.

Then set the resolution in the game to 800 x 600.
