I know there are some guitar people around here, so I came for some help.
I want to buy a new guitar amp, i got mine about a year ago from my bro, and it no longer works. It's an old Peavey.
I want one that will give me a good rock sound. I have about 300 dollars, but I dont want to spend too much(maybe around 200), I have bills to pay (damn you car insurance!). Anyone have any recomendations? Also, I would prefer to buy from a trusted online store.
Thanks alot for any help :)

    I've always liked fender amps...

You might look into a Fender Preston Chorus for about that range, perhaps used...

But, as with guitars, your best bet is to go to the store and play with em till you find one you like.

Peavey makes excellent stuff. You may want to look for a Classic 30 used. Great little tube amp, takes pedals well, and does quite well on its own.

What kind of rock are we talking about, Led Zep, Pantera, VH???

my personal favorite amps are by line 6... they are usually a bit more expensive though. you may be able to find one for around 300 though at like guitarcenter.com or samash

hate to be boring, but i've always stuck with marshall and probably always will. their ease of use and reliability keeps me with them - sorry if it makes anyone have different thoughts on me!!!

yeah i spent about £250 on my mg 50dfx, its gone down in price loads now i have noticed. i also stay away from the mode 4 range however, don't like the quality and controls as much.

mode 4 is complete crap. I am waiting to add a cameron modded marshall and a splawn modded marshall to the collection :D

More modern stuff, Pantera would be an example, or something like The Offspring, heavy alternative music, ya know? :D
I was thinking about the following: http://www.peaveymag.net/productdetails-dealer-03057-prodid-2195.aspx

That's a nice little amp. My suggestion is try to find one used. A lot of guys buy those and they expect more out of them and upgrade. It would be fine for at home use, with a band, no dice. You also may want to consider a Solid State amp with a 12" speaker. It will have more low end than an amp with a 10", which will make for better palm mutes for rythm playing. You know the chugga chugga chugga's :D.

In the early days Dimebag used Randall solid state amps and they still KICK BUTT. Search the pawn shops and fire a few up. You can get some serious rock and metal tones from old solid state Randall amps.

Another thing to consider is a Line6 GuitarPort. Hooks to your PC via USB. Has a ton of amp models and cabinet simulators. I actually use one for practicing at home when the kids are around. Great tool, only about 99 bucks brand new, has to many online features to list.

    Keep the questions coming :D
