Error installing Tony Hawk Underground 2

    Hey there,
I got THUG2 about two weeks ago and keep having this problem installing it. When I consulted the tech support people at activision, they ended up saying Ive got to reinstall XP, but this is the only thing I have a problem with: it doesnt seem to make sense. Anyway, the original problem is at the bottom, but pretty much after I start the install, I put in disk 1, then 2, then 3, then right as soon as I put disk 1 back in, it has these 5 errors that say they cannot create a dir or copy any files to it. Any ideas on a way to fix it? Ive already done the defrag and scandisk. Thanks for your help.

    Here are my specs:
    P4 1.7 512MB
    XP SP2
    GeForce4 ti4200
    SB Audigy
70+ GB free on 4 HDs

Heres what the tech support people at activision said:

    Hello,
It looks like you may have to do a little housecleaning on your system. I suggest you uninstall the game, and delete the game folder. Now I want you to do the following:
    - Do a complete ScanDisk
    1) Click the Start button > Settings > Control Panel.
    2) Double-click the Administrative Tools icon.
    3) Double-click the Computer Management icon.
    4) Under Computer Management > Storage, highlight Disk Management.
    5) Select the C: drive.
    6) Right-click and select Properties.
    7) Click the Tools tab.
    8) Under Error-checking, click the Check Now... button.
    9) Checkmark all the Check disk options.
    10) Click the Start button.
    - Do a complete Defrag
    1) Click on the Start button > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.
    2) Select the C: drive.
    3) Click the Defragmentation button to start. A defragmentation may take awhile depending on the size of the drive and amount used.
Now reinstall windows. All you need to do is put the Windows disc in the cdrom drive and then run setup.exe off of the disc. Choose to do an upgrade. This will replace missing or corrupted files. Once that is done go ahead and reinstall the game. Let us know how this turns out! Customer10/15/2004 03:13 PM I did that, and still the same "File transfer interrupted" box with the "unable..." stuff below it. Response (Sam Akiki)10/15/2004 02:14 PM Hello,
Go to start->settings->control panel. Double-click on Administrative tools. Now double-click on the services icon. In the list of services find the following:
    Network Associates McShield
    Security Center
Right-click on each one of these services and select stop. Now close all windows and try the game. Let us know how this turns out! Customer10/15/2004 12:35 PM Heres my sysinfo.nfo that you asked for. Any other ideas that I could try? Response (Sam Akiki)10/15/2004 12:25 PM Hello,
Go to start->programs->accessories->system tools->system information. This will bring up the system information tool. Go to the top menu and select file->Save. This will save a file with all of your system information. Save it to your desktop. You can name it sysinfo.nfo. Attach this file to the support incident. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us. Customer10/15/2004 12:13 PM Same results as before. Those "unable to create..." followed by the "unable to copy..." messages. Response (Sam Akiki)10/15/2004 11:34 AM Hello,
Ok. Let us know how this turns out! Customer10/14/2004 05:57 PM I tried holding down the left shift key and it still happened. Ill try again in the morning with the right one just in case I held it down too long (i held it until after I clicked ok). Response (Sam Akiki)10/14/2004 04:14 PM Hello,
Try this. When it asks for disc 1 for the last time hold down the shift key when you put the disc in. Keep holding it down until the disc is done spinning up. Then when its ready try continuing the installation. Let us know how this turns out! Customer10/14/2004 02:03 PM I went and exchanged it again today, and it gave me the same error. The guy at the store said that they have one more copy to sell and then they'll be getting a new batch in. Do you think that this problem could be because of my antivirus software or anything like that? Response (Dov Carson)10/13/2004 12:18 PM This usually indicates that yes indeed you may have yet another bad disc. Try exchanging it again. Ask the store if they have the same batch of discs or when they will be recieving another shipment. Customer10/13/2004 11:55 AM Thanks for the advice. I updated my drivers and tried again, this time installing it to a different drive, but the problem was the same. It happens when its copying the binkw32.dll file if that helps any. On another odd, but painful note, this already is the second CD of THUG2 that Ive gotten. The first one had a CRC error when copying wdk.??? off of the 3rd CD, so I brought it back and exchanged it. If you really think that this is yet ANOTHER bad cd, then Ill exchange it again. Ill attach the new dxdiag.txt with my updated driver info also.
    -Mark Response (Dov Carson)10/12/2004 04:28 PM Hello Mark, I am sorry to hear about the difficulty you are having with our product. Try updating your video card drivers here;
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.77
Try the installation again. If you are still recieving this error, you may in fact hava a bad disc. Try exchanging the disc at the retailer.
if the problem persists, I would like you to generate and send to us a directx diagnostic file. This will greatly aid us in troubleshooting your system. To do this we ask that you do the following.
    1) Click on the Start button > Run.
    2) In the box type: dxdiag
    3) Click the OK button.
    4) DirectX Diagnostic Tool will open, click the Save All Information button at the bottom.
    5) Save the dxdiag.txt file to your desktop.
    6) Login to your account at http://activision.custhelp.com.
    7) Click My Stuff and then click Questions.
    8) Find your current incident and click on it under the Subject column.
    9) Click Update Incident.
    10) Under "Attach Additional Documents to Question" you will see a Browse button. Click that and browse your computer for the Dxdiag on your desktop. When you locate the file, double click on it.
    11) Once the file appears as attached, you can now enter any additional information about your Incident in the "Results and/or Additional Information" field.
    12) Click "Submit Update to Question" to send the Dxdiag Customer10/11/2004 01:44 PM I just got Tony Hawk's Underground 2 for PC. When installing it, everything runs fine, except one thing. It goes from disk 1, to disk 2, to disk 3, then back to disk 1. As soon as I put disk 1 back in, it says "unable to create E:\Games2\THUG2\Docs", followed by "unable to copy F:\...\Docs\*.* to E:\Games2\THUG2\Docs". After I click OK on both of those (because thats the only option), two more pops up saying the same thing except now the dir is \THUG2\Docs\Manuals. Whats the deal?
Ive tried Alt-Tabing out of the installation and creating those dirs on my own, which I was able to do, but it still had an error. After I click the OK button on all 4 boxes, it pauses and quits back to the desktop after having uninstalled everything that was on there. Any ideas? I appreciate your help.

    Hi there,
I posted a problem I had installing Tony Hawk Undergound 2 over in the Game threads, but Im thinking that it may be more of an XP error than anything else cause the tech support people suggested that I reinstall windows. Would you all be able to check it out to see if it sounds like something's messed up or if the problem lies elsewhere. Thanks
