    Hello everyone,
I don't normally do this but feel compelled at this moment to do so. As some of you may already know, my sister Debbie Morrow (Corzine) was in a car accident on June 3rd of this year. Her car was t-boned while on the way to work and she has been in critical condition since going to the hospital. She was first taken to Carbondale Hospital (or maybe Murphysboro, not sure) but was quickly transferred to St. Louis University Hospital due to her injuries. She was initially lucid but the doctors had to sedate her because of her injuries and she has not been awake since the accident. Her injuries include a broken shoulder, pelvis, ankle, numerous ribs, bruised lung and heart, damaged spleen, and other numerous contusions and abrasions. Her vitals are fine except for her breathing as she needs to be on a ventilator to help her breathing. Her lungs are not draining well at all and she has an infection that the doctors are unable to pinpoint and are trying to pinpoint at this time with little success and are fighting it with potent meds. She is an employee of SIU and has insurance but as we all know that will not cover all of her families expenses. She has a husband (Ted), a 16 y.o. son James and a 14 y.o. daughter Sally, all of whom are extremely traumatized by this incident. The kids are being taken care of (read kept busy) by friends and family and Ted has rarely been away from my sister. I am asking for your heartfelt prayers for all of us during this time of need.

IF you find yourself capable of trying to help out more than just with prayers and wish to help out with a donation (please donate and don’t send cards or flowers as in the ICU she can have neither of those items). There is a couple of ways to do so. First, we have a dear friend who is running a benefit auction of Blenko Glass on Ebay. You can find that auction here:

    Debbie's Blenko Auction

Or if you wish to donate directly you may do so either by sending the money to the following:

You may send donations to any Union Planters Bank of Illinois

    Deborah J. C. Morrow
    Special Account Fund
    Union Planters Bank of Illinois

Or, if you wish to, we can make the donation to the fund for you via our paypal account at:

    jcorzine@mchsi.com

Donations to the paypal account sends an email to us with your contribution information. None of that information will be released in any way. Monies sent to the Union Planters Bank will be disbursed by the bank to Ted and Debbie only! All monies sent to us will be deposited to the Union Planters Bank in Debbies fund.

Thank you dear friends for everything, especially for your prayers. Please keep all of us in your thoughts and your prayers as we will do for you.

    Thank you again,
    Wraith aka Jack Corzine

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. She is in good hands though, and can recover quite well, although it will take some time. Thanks for letting us know - we'll do what we can.

Will try to place the proper link here, if this does not work you will need to go to Paypal and hit the Send Money link. It will allow you to send money to that account via the email address.

Hmmm can't find the proper link and graphic for an automatic without the use of Credit Card. I guess you will just have to go to PayPal and use the send money link with the email address jcorzine@mchsi.com. You will have to setup an account but they are free and you should have no problem with it. I am really a newbie when it comes to PayPal and how it works. I'm sure there are others here who are more knowledgable than I and will be able to straighten us out if we are wrong here.

    Sorry for any confusion.

    Jack

Jack, can you post an exact address for a preferred bank? I've had problems with PayPal and prefer to send a check directly, but being in Mississippi, I've never seen a Planters Bank.

And your family will be in my prayers.

Just an excerpt from an email from my dad to the rest of us......

This means that she is doing better but not out of the woods yet. Please continue your prayers for her and our family. I will be placing another benefit auction online soon (a wooden pen that has been donated by another dear friend). When I do I will be certain to post the link here. Thanks for the feedback and for the prayers and of course for anything else as well.

    Shadowchaser A Really Great Guy

Thank you for asking G.T. Here's a summary to date:

Debbies condition has changed little since my last posting. She is still having great difficulty clearing the fluids from her lungs and the Doctors are puzzled as to the actual reasons. She has had a CAT scan (finally) but I do not have the results at this time yet. The doctors have also been able to culture the infection that she is battling and should be better able to treat this infection now with more appropriate anti-biotics. Her heart seems to be fine and here brain is fine as well. I'm unsure just how long they can keep her sedated and chemically paralyzed before it starts to do further damage to her. The major concerns are still the draining of the fluid in her lungs and the infection.

I will be placing the hand made wooden pen for sale on eBay soon. This is a benefit auction that a friend of mine donated one of his fine works for. This pen is made from Birds Eye Maple with a custom made Maple box. All proceeds from this auction goes to Debbie's fund that has been setup at the bank given earlier in this thread.

My sister is a very tough cookie. We lost our mother at an early age to Luekemia and Deb had to take over many of the duties of a mother to the rest of the family (3 other boys) that were younger than she. Her and her husband bought what was essentially a homestead in Southern Illinois where they had to pack potable water to since there were not drilled wells or piped water there. She lived there without indoor plumbing for about 10 years! She lost her first child (Patti) to Childhood Luekemia just before the developed bone marrow transplants and other "wonder drugs" that are currently used to save cancer patients today. She is a Boy Scout Leader of the Carbondale Troop, a Girl Scout Leader, active in the SIU campus groups, working on a black belt in Karate, is an active camper and outdoors woman. She is also one of my favorite people to be around and that is saying a LOT for someone! She is definitely a fighter and I have rarely seen her down about anything at all. She is well rooted in her faith and is quite practical when it comes to raising her other two children. As you can probably tell I love my sister very much and would do anything possible for her.

We are open to other avenues of helping my sister and her family out. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know so I can present them to the rest of the family. Her husband is reluctant to have their situation on the Internet but I have seen first hand many instances of online friends pulling together to help each other out in like manner.

Please keep Debbie in your prayers. Prayers are always answered, just not always in the manner that we wish for them to be. Thank you for all of your help. I apologize in advance if I have strayed too far from the path here. I wish to especially thank M.A. for allowing this thread when he did not need to. Many boards I know would not allow this type of posting and I really apreciate the problems that are usually related to this kind of posting.

The second benefit auction for Debbie has concluded with the Buy Now purchase of the donated Blenko Glass. Please watch here for news on the next donated item to be auctioned off (a hand made wooden pen by Tim Boddy, a beautiful work of art that is functional too). I will be posting the pen for auction this weekend sometime and will announce it here. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and other support.

    Now for the update from my dad in last nights e-mail;
As you can see, the family is trying to return to a somewhat normal state of trying to regain some income and yet still be there for Debbie. As some of you may know, this is quite difficult to do while a loved one is essentially in a drug induced coma such as Debbie is. Please continue to pray for Debbie's continued health, for Ted's and the children's continued well being, for the bills to be met, for the expenses to be taken care of, for my dad's health (he's 72) and his strength through this trying time, for God's will to be done. I thank you all once again for your prayers and for allowing us this avenue of relieving stress and support. God bless you all.

A lot has happened over the last few days, some good, some not so good. A week ago they performed surgery on Debbie to remove the "gunk" from her lungs. They removed the congealed blood and fluids (more like jello) from her chest cavity and placed a trac in to help to preserve her larynx from further damage from the respirator. They have taken her off of the paralytic drugs and reduced her pain meds. This is in hopes that she will wake up and become more aware of her surroundings. It has been one week and whereas she has opened her eyes she does not seem to be able to focus or to recognize anyone yet. The doctors are not overly worried (I am) but are hopeful that it will improve with some more time. Please keep Debbie's continued improvement in your prayers and thoughts. I will be placing another auction online (or rather a friend of mine will for me) by the weekend. It will be a hand made wooden pen and case. Please consider bidding on it as it is for a good cause (Debbie). Thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts. I have to go to work now.

Debbie is doing MUCH better now and I am very grateful for all of the prayers and other support that everyone has been doing. She is awake and aware but still very tired and sore. The doctors have taken her off of the morphine drip (now she has to ask for pain relief) and they are starting some minor therapy (although I doubt if Debbie feels it is minor). She has not been upgraded yet but I have faith she will be soon. Thank you again for all the support and I hope to be able to continue with the good news. God bless and keep you all!

    Yeah!

WOW - our bodies are intricately made aren't they? Something wrong here and we can't wake up. But then healing begins and now...absolutely amazing. God knew what He was doing when He created us.

Your whole family must be walking on cloud nine as they say.

Keep looking back at how far she's come when you look ahead and feel like she has so far to go.

  50. Shadowchaser

    Shadowchaser A Really Great Guy

    Pegg,
She couldn't wake up because she was chemically paralyzed to help with the healing process (thought I stated that in an earlier post, maybe not). But the major concern was the fluid on her lungs causing damage and keeping her on the ventilator. She still has the trac in and as far as I know, still needs the ventilator to facilitate her breathing.

    Kodo,
Thanks to you sir for your continued support. Still waiting on a custom sig from you, maybe one of these days it'll happen. Been waiting patiently/not so patiently for about 2 years now. Anyway, thanks again for the support m8.

And a very LARGE thank you to everyone here on MG for your support as well. I know that there were many more here praying than what posted and for those who decided to remain anonymous, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and know that the Lord knows each and every one of you.

    Jack
