Analog Computer Monitor

The past two weeks when turning on my computer monitor. I am getting on and off what looks like lines when there is not a channel. Then I reboot and start again and it is ok. When the analog to digital is completed will I be able to use my monitor? I don't use it as a TV just as computer. My computer is gateway it is two years old and is a desktop. Thank you in advance.

 

Any help I don't know what is wrong with my monitor.

 

Are these lines horizontal vertical, even spaced or random?

You will have no problem running an analogue monitor as your graphics card is and still will output an analogue signal.

 

They are horizontal and random upon start up.

 

you could be having horizontal sync problems, either your monitor isn't interpreting the pulses correctly or the graphic cards not sending them out properly.
I would think the problem is more to do with the computer than the monitor as restarting it makes a difference. Is it possible you could try the monitor on another computer? Try re-plugging the monitor lead and graphics card if possible.

BTW I take it we are talking about a CRT type monitor?

You need to determine if the problem is with the computer or the monitor and the best way to do that is by swapping monitors as suggested. If the problem follows the monitor, you have a bad monitor. If the problem stays with the computer, the computer (and/or graphics card) are having problems. Until you determine which is bad, we are at an impasse.
