Is the document you are trying to open created using Office 2007?
As far as getting a response to sending an error report, I have never gotten a response. I may be doing something wrong, but I haven't ever seen a response.
Have you also tried going to the MS Forum on Office? I have had some help by going to either the MS sponsored forum or other forums specifically for MS Office software.
Sorry I could not offer better help. Please keep us posted.

hi, ive found the microsoft sites very vague and non specific, they dont address my problems, only major mass problems, sometimes when i send an error report it will show a link to an article or kb if there is a fix available

Try start, right click my computer, click manage click system tools, click event manager, click application application, and you should see a red X, or, exclamation, for the error.
Double click the error and it will give you a little information on it.

hi baklogic, yeah i got an error message from doing what u suggest
it gives a link to microsoft which leads me to this:

    Details
    ID: 1000
    Source: Microsoft Office 12
    We're sorry
There is no additional information about this issue in the Error and Event Log Messages or Knowledge Base databases at this time. You can use the links in the Support area to determine whether any additional information might be available elsewhere.

ive got quite a few of these red x's, must be every time i get the error
i never even knew that system was there
just for the record, it was 'event viewer' not 'event manager'
i was confusled for a bit
also it wont allow me to copy and paste the event viewer error so ill add a print screen pic below, can you make sense of this
as ive mentioned this program has been uninstalled and deleted, ive ran ccleaner to repair any reg problems and reinstalled clean, problem still present
somethin on my pc doesnt want me to use word, or media player11
oh also, ive had problems updating net framework 2 and 3
    is there a pattern emerging?
    could it all be related?
its genuine copies of both windows and word so its not a legal issue for the windows updates, it just says failed every time i try to do them
all other updates work fine, am i complicating things by throwing more into the equasion?

As you have done some cleaning up, sometimes it messes up Windows files.
I suggest you go to start, run, type in sfc /scannow (note the space after sfc ) and put your XP disc in the cd/dvd rom, and keep clicking retry, until the little box dissappears- it can take some time.
When you have done that , try updating again. If you need to install net framework, I have given the links to Microsoft for the stand alone, redistributable net framework, up to version 3 ( it is up to 3.5 now, but see how you go.
Up to netframework 2, you cannot unistall from add and remove, but version 3, and 3.5 can be removed, if ever it was wanted.

Also in the tools part of Office, you can run a detect and repair, but you need your Office disc in the cd/dvd rom - this can sometimes find the problem, if a file is corrupted , in Office.

I have just had a problem with nview.dll - found it was fixed by a java update, so ........see how you go

hi, cheers for reply, im now running the sfc /scannow, i dont have the original windows disk as it was pre installed, i do have a copy of xp pro around somewhere, i presume that when the scan stops its because a file is missing, and the disk needs to be in the drawer to search for the missing file, if that happens ill put the pro disk in as i hope the files will be available on there :confused
the problem with framework is the install bit, downloading them is fine, installing them is always errored,
once ive done the sfc ill go onto the office because the more i think about it, office wont run properley if there are missing windows files :confused
so once windows files are sorted ill see if office is cured and then if not ill run the office check
i also use a program called winff, for converting fone vids to mpg, last night that was doing the same thing, a bit like a critical error and shutting down
same cause maybe, its one thing after another but theres gotta be a reason for it, ill post back here when i have some news
    cheers for advice mate

yeah i think so, that downloads before u get the latest updates i think, im using microsoft installer now, not windows one, but i do remember when i first remastered the comp i downloaded the latest windows installer, then did all the updates and then installed office and started using microsoft update

If you still have problems with the net framework, then have a look at Net framework clean up from microsoft
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...33-0343-4EE4-B0C4-97BD16967A09&displaylang=en
If, somehow you have uninstalled an update, as listed there, its possible that your net framework files are hashed- cleaner tools can be tricky, and often lead to trouble, themselves. I have tried a few, and they seem to work o.k, but then things start misbehaving, so I am not the most supportive geek for these tools, unless the user has a little knowledge.

If you use an XP Pro disc, for an XP Home system, with sfc /scannow, you may find, occasionally it says retry, and you retry a few times, then have to skip a file, as they have small differences.
Incidendly, when I said I don't., personally, like to offer cleaning programs too much, I was not referring to a Microsoft fix, but registry checkers , and the like.

yeah the cleaner i was using is ccleaner, its been fine on all of my pc's upto now, its just after the crash all these problems started, which might just be a co-incidence, i dunno,
    but anyway
sfc /scannow has ran thru with no problems whatsoever, didnt stop once, ive just been back onto word, by double clicking a .docx file on my desktop it auto opened word, then i click the red x and it shut down but gave me the same error message, and the option to send error report, i clicked 'dont' send report and the program closed and opened again and the file recovered, tyhen i closed it again and the error came back, i clicked 'yes' to send the report and the file disappeared
    :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry
ill try that office fix u mentioned and the frame work probs and get back in touch

Have you got divX installed ? If so,Try uninstalling it, and then net framework update.
Have you installed any codec packs ? - again try uninstalling, in case there is a dicky codec.
The best wat that I find for updating is to download autoupdater from majorgeeks. It has everything, - if the codecs don't solve it, it could be worth using that cleanup from microsoft, again, the using the autoupdater - I use it often, saves keep going on the web.

Have you tried system Restore ? back up any data to a cd/dvd first, in case.....Go to start, accessaries, system tools, system restore, BUT, make sure you go back to before you started getting the problems, if you can remember when that was.
I may have exhausted my thoughts, at the moment, except that of possible malware -
T could be worth starting a new post in the malware section, after reading the basics here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
If you have not got your xp disc, a format and reinstall is a problem.- Unless you have a restore cd, like Dell's or whatever manufacture your pc is.
Also you have to backup any important data to a cd/dvd, if you can, or you could lose it.
Either way , is your coa sticker on the base unit ? You would need it to reinstall,if you could borrow an XP disc from a freind, you could then format, and reinstall.
I believe you said you had the Office cd's, to reinstall, but not the XP Home cd.Without the Home cd a repair might prove difficult.
Come back, and let us know, if any of the suggestions solved it, or, not.
I will look through my archives, to see if I have missed something, but someone else might have an answer, if it's not malware.
There are some good brains at majorgeeks, and all are welcome to help, if they can.
